and the Temple constructed during the latter portion of his reign of
sixty-six years, which Lepsius calculates to have extended from 1388 to
1322 B.C.

When the mounds which surround this pile of buildings were houses
of the aristocracy, standing in cultivated gardens, with palms and shrubs
overshadowing them, the Memnonium must have been a glorious edifice,
worthy of the other great buildings which stood within the Thebaic!.
