" The Wall of Earth " at the Northern end sepa-
rating the Orbit from the Shadow, we shall have
the hieroglyph for the orbit "Sennen," which
is identical with the cartouche, crr=l surround-
ing the titles of the monarch. That familiar
symbol, by aid of which Champollion first
divined the secret of the writing, is therefore
nothing else than a masonic sign, signifying
that not the circumference, but the immensely
more extensive orbit of the earth is the limit
of the royal authority ; and indicating thereby
(since the orbit implies renewal from age to
ftge) its endurance no less than its univer-
sality. Again, if we represent the course of
the celestial Nile by the rays traced in the
I'oof of the same chamber, aav we have the
hieroglyph of the river, while the straight
floor-line descending from the throne gives
Jts hieratic ecpaivalent. So if we draw the
