iUANTO russe antica, nobile e po-
terne la Famiglia de gli ALBERTI
in Fiorenza, ne fanno fede le Ulorie :
i e Scipione Ammirato, che per certi
rispetti volle rilevare il nome de' CON-
CINI, non trovò più bella e spc-
dita invenzione, che di mettergli in
compagnia degli Alberti, adeguan-
do una istesia origine all' una et ali1 altra Fami-
glia. A noi baderà dire che nel 1304. erano già
di grande autorità in Fiorenza e che savorivano la faz-
zione de' Bianchi : e l'anno 13S4. nelle Fcstè che
si secero in Fiorenza per 1' acquino d'Arezzo, gli
Apparati e le Pompe de gli ALBERTI surono di tal
magnificenza, che parvero più convenienti a qualunque
gran Prencipe, che a personc private. Ne' Farti della
Republics lì trova che gli Alberti anno avuto nove volte
il Gonfalonerato, eh' era ilsuprcmo grado in Onore et in
Potenza al quale potettero aspirarc i Fiorentini. Ma nelle
frequenti boraschc e moti delle cose publiche, non
ebbero sempre la sortuna savorevole. L'anno 13S7.
Cipriano e Benedetto de gli Alberti furono scacciati
dalla Patria, e poi l'anno 1411. banditi insino a
fanciulli di quella Cafe. Ma nel 14:8. fu levato il
bando e dato ordine clic ognuno potei! e venire e st are
liberamente a Fiorenza. Il Copra nominato Cipriano su Padre
di Alberto, di Lorenzo e di Giovanni. Alberto Al-
berti su primo Canonico e poi l'anno 1437. Vefco-
vo di Camerino: Et Eqgeoio Papa che con laura pompa
e di noti razione d'assetto fu 'da' Fiorentini nella loro
Città accolto, avendo nel tempo eh' egli vi celebrò il
Concilio satto prova delle virtù di quel Prelato, per
regno di gratitudine verso la dia Nazione, e per pre-
mio dovuto a' Cuoi meriti, l'onoro del Cardinalato. Lo-
renzo fratello d'Alberto laCcio più figlioli, Bernardo Car-
lo e Leon BattiCta, le cui rare qualità porgeranno am-
pia materia di lodi a quello breve discorio. Con quanta
cura e con Che disciphna quelli fratelli suftero nella gio-
ventù dal Padre allevati, li legge nel Trattato che l'

were driven out os their Country, and asterwards in 1411.

ntshment was taken oft", and they were all again al-
lowed to return and live sreely at Florence. The above-
named Cyprian was sather of Alberto, Lorenzo and
John. Alberto Alberti was first Canon, and after-
wards, in the year 1437, Bissiop of Camerino: and
Pope Eugeitias, who was received by the Florentines
in their City in Co pompous ;md assectionate a man-
ner, having, at the time when he held his Council
there, made tnul of this Prelate's virtues, did then,
as a mark of .his gratitude towards his Nation, and
as a reward due to his merit, honour him wiih the
