vochano, non hi sogna che abbiano le loro Alazze

puoi veder quando tu vuoi conficcare un chiodo
lottile in un legno duro, che sé tu adoprerai un
martello giare, non ti riuicirà ; ma sé tu ne
adoprerai un piccolo ed accomodato; lo farai pene-
trare. Balli de' Cavamene quel che n' abbiam
detto, sé già non è da aggiugnerci, che alcuna
volta, o per rispiarmo della spcla, o per ischifare
la ruinosa debolezza del Terreno, ti gioverà di
fondar non con una sola continuata fossa, tiran-
do la muraglia continuata per tutto, ma tramez-
zando, lasciari intervalli, come sé avelli a pian-
tare solamente pilastri, o colonne, onde tirati
poi archi" dall'uri pilallto all'altro, vi

In quelli si anno ad osservare le medesìme cose,
che noi abbiamo racconte di sopra, ma quanto più
v'aia por sopra pesi maggiori; tanto più larghi e

ving in these piles, whatever sort it is of, should
do its bulinels by a great many repeated staokes •
for when it is too heavy, coming down
with an immense and intolerable force, it
breaks and splits the Timber ; but the conti-
nual repetition of gentle slrokes wearies and
overcomes the greatell hardness and obstinacy
of the ground. You have an inliance of this
when you go to drive a small Nail into a hard
piece of Timber ; if you lise a great heavy
hammer, it won't do ; but if you work with
a manageable light one, it penetrates imme-
diately. What has been laid may susfice, with
relation to our Trench, unless we would add,
that sometimes, either to save money, or to
avoid an Intermediate piece of rotten ground,
it may not be amiss to make a Foundation
not continued entire all the way, but with
intervals left between, as if we were only making
Columnsorl'ilasters,thcnturningArches*
from one Pilaster to the other, to by
over them the rest of the Wall. In these we
are to observe the same directions as we gave
before ; but the greater weight you are to raise
upon them, the larger and llronger Pilallers and
Bales you musf make. But of these enough.
