il traverso, collocandole l'unii a traverso dell'al-
tra: aggiugnivi che da foderi delle Travate ipor-
tino verlo i nemici, Puntoni e Becchi e Pali con
punte di ferro, quali chiamano Paloni ferrati, ac-
ciocché alcuna nave de' nemici /palmata, non
ardisea venire ad affrontare il luogo a piene vele o
a trapalarlo. Copri i foderi dalla violenza de'
fuochi, con terra, e ponvi attorno per illeccato,
Graticci e Parapetti di legname groslb : favvi in
luoghi commodi, Torri di legname, e fermale con
aliai Ancore in luoghi stabili contra l'impeto dell'
onde, e naseose a' nemici. Gioverà condurre
tal lavoro a onde, voltando l'arco verso l'onde ;
acciocché egli più facilmente lelopporti,e abbiano
le Ancore manco bisogno dell' ajuto di fuori : e
di loro Ila detto a bastanza.

the place, or the grcatncls of the expence will
not allow of this, as for ilistance, if the bottom be
a sand or mud continually moving, or the water
be of too great a depth, you may then block up
the Haven in the following manner. Make a ssoac
of great barrels fattened together, with planks
and timbers joyned cross-ways to one another,
and with large spikes and sliarp beaks slicking out
from the float, and Piles with points of iron, such
as are call'd ihod piles, to the intent that none of
the enemy's light (hips may dare to drive against
the float with full sails, in order to endeavour to
break or pass it. Dawb the sloat over with mud to
secure it against sire, and fortify it with a pali-
sado of hurdles or strong boards, and in con-
venient places with wooden Towers, fattening the
whole work against the fury of the waves with a
good number of Anchors concealed from the
enemy. It wou'd not be amiss to make such a
Work sinuous or wavy, with the backs of the
arches turned against the stress of the weather
that the Float may bear the less upon its anchors.

De Commi (sari),Camerlenghi, e Rif-
cotitori pulii ci ; e di sì satti Ma-
gistrati, a quali appartiene Tif-
petzione dellAnnona, dellErd-
rio, dell Armeria, del Mercato,
de gli Arsatali, &c. Delle tre
sorti di prigione, e del modo, luo-
ghi, e sorma loro.
RA accadendo che nell'aver' a far tante
cose, tu abbia bisogno di vettovaglie, e
di spese assai, bisogna trattare de' Ma-
gistrati, che abbiano cura di limili asfa-
ri ; come sono Commissarij, Camerlenghi, e Rii-
cotitori publici,' e limili ; per li quali si debbono
fine Edisiej si fatti : Il Granajo, la Camera da te-
nervi i denari, quella da tenervi le Armi ; il luo-
go per il Mercato, l'Arsenale, e le Stalle publi-
che; poche sono quelle cose, che in quello luo-
go ci pajono da dirli, ma da non sé ne fare invero
beffe : Concinlia che egli è asfai manifesto, che il
Granajo, la Camera del Comune, e la Camera del-
le Armi, si debbono collocare nel mezzo della
Città,

Of the Commi(faries, Chaniberlains,
pullick Receivers and the like
Magistratcs, whose lusiness is to
fapply and \freside over the pul-
lick Granaries, Chamlcrs os Ac-
counts, Arsenals, Marts, Docks
and Stalks ; as also of the three
sorts of Prisons, their struB/tres,
sit nations, and compartitions.
OW as the execution of all these tilings
requires good slore of provisions, and of
treasures to supply the expence; it will
be neceslary to say something of the
Magistrates who have the care of this part of the
business : as, for instance, CommisTaries, Cham-
berlains, publick Receivers and the like, for whom
the following Strussures mull be eressed : the
Granary, the Chamber for keeping the treasures,
the Arsenal, the Mart or place for the tranlading
commerce, the Dock and the publick Stables for
Horscs. We silali have but little to say here upon
thesc heads, but that little mull not be neglefted.
