che e' non abbia a ribollire per li raggi del So-
le, riè addiacciarli per il soverchio freddo. 01-

acciocché il pcl'cc abbia dove rifuggire sé su-
bitamentc scntillc intorbidarli le acque, e non
si marcisea sbigottito. Il Pelle si nutre del su-

li Geli ù muore : a' Soli di mezzogiorno li
rallegra e scherza. Credono che alcuna volta
lia bene che nella Pekhiera entrino le Piene
fangoie delle pioggie, ma non si devono ri-
cevere le prime dopo i giorni Canicolari ; per-
chè sanno come di calcina, e ammazzano il pcs-
ce : e dipoi non si debbe mettervene dentro,
sé non di rado ; perciocché elle nuocono con
il museo puzzolente e all'acqua e al pesee.
Ma bisogna avvertire che l'acqua continuamen-
te v' entri, e continuamente sé ne vada; ven-
ia ella o da fonte o da fiume o da lago o
ila mare. Ma de' Vivai che si fanno d'acque
marine, ne insegnano commodamentc piti alla
lar"a in quello modo : Nelle regioni fangaie
si nutriseono i pesei stiacciati, come sono le
Sogliole. Ne' paelì renoli le cocchiglie : gli al-
tri si nutriseono meglio nel Marc, come le
Orate e i Dentali : fra salli si nutriseono me-
nilo i Tordi e le Merle e gli altri che infra
iallì non nati. Ultimamente dicono che quel-
lo slagno e ottimo per conserve di pesei, che
sarà collocato in modo, che l'onda del Mare
che di nuovo vi viene, ripercuota in quella
che v' era innanzi ; e che non lati impigrir-
vili l'acqua che v' era prima : e dicono che
quelle acque diventano manco sane, che si ri-
nnovano pur troppo adagio. Or ila detto a
bailanza della Indultria, e della diligenza del
Fattore circa molte cose. Ma molto si loda
quel che gioia grandemente al rassettare e al
riporre le ricolte per le quali, bisogna ordinare
l'Aia espolla a Soli e a Venti ; non lontana
dalli capanna che dicemmo poco avanti ; ac-
ciocché nelle pioggie subitanc tu polla in Un
momento riporre e i lavoranti ed elle robe al
coperto. Dove tu vuoi far l'Aja, spianavi il
terreno non a piano, ma corretto così leggier-
mente, dipoi disia bene le zolle : dipoi getta'

not dellroy the eggs, or the young, or pre-
judice the Wall ; and be Bare to make con-
venient places to keep their meat and Water
in. It will be very convenient for this pur-
pose to have a moat quite round your houle,
wherein your Geese, Ducks, Hon, and Cows
may water and walh thcmlelves, and near which
in all weathers, they may bave as much meat
lying ready for them as they will eat. Let
the water and meat for your smaller Fowls
be kept in tunnels along the wall, so that
they may not scatter or dirty it with their
feet ; and you may have pipes into these tun-
nels from without, thro' which you may con-
vey their food in to them. In the middle,
let there be a place for them to walh in,
with a conilant supply of clean water. Make
your Filh-pond in a chalky soil, and dig it
so deep that the water may neither be over-
heated by the rays of the sun, nor too easily
frozen up by the cold. Moreover, make some
caverns in the sides, for the filli to run in»
to upon any sudden dillurbance of the wa-
ter, that they may not be walled and worn
away by continual alarms. Fidi are nourilhej
by the juices of the earth ; great heat tor-
ments them, and extreme frost kills them : but
they are very much pleased and delighted by
the mid-day sun. It is thought not amiss to
have the turbid floods after rains flow into
the pond sometimes; but never upon the firlt
rain after the dog-days ; because they then have
a strong tinilure of Lime, and will kill the
Filli ; and afterwards too they lliou'd be admitted
but rarely, because their flanking Ikne is apt to
prejudice both the Filli and water too : but
ilili there ought to be a continual ssux and reslux
of water, either from some spring, river, lake or
Sea. But concerning Filh-ponds which are to be
supplied by the Sea-water, the Ancients have
given us fuller inflruflions, in the following
manner. A muddy soil afsords the bell nourilh-'
ment for flat Filh,such as Soals and the like, and a
sandy is bell for lhcll-Filli. The Sea itselfis bed for
others, as the Dory and Shark ; and the Sea-thrulli
and Whiting feed bell among the Rocks where
they are naturally bred. Laflly they lay that
there can be no better Pond for keeping filli in,'
than one so situated that the Waves of the Sea
which ssow into it are continually removing
