desired. All these palaces, almost adjoining, are nevertheless connected by
rapid underground communication, from centre to centre, from library to
library, etc. Books and small parcels can be despatched at an instant's notice
by pneumatic tubes. The whole structure of the Tower is of steel, stone,
cement and bronze, even book-cases and doors being of these materials, and is
heated from an outside centre which can be regulated according to the demand.
