The cars worked on two separate Unes, branching off frorn the north-
eastern corner of the mounds where we had stopped last year. One of
thèse branches went straight towards the tomb of Den. We stopped at the
top of the staircase going down to the main chamber. During thèse

excavations were discovered two important fragments : one a potsberd
(fig. 1), with the name of a king whose nanie is similar to tbat of
SemerJehet, as the name is now generally read, but with an unusuàl
determinative. ïlie other fragment, now in tbe British Muséum, belongs

to a crystal vase (fig. 2). The name of the king Mcrlapa bas been
rubbed off, and replaced by that of king Semcmpses (?). In front are tbe
two signs of Setiu or Septi (Ousapbeïs), whose Ka-name is generally
admitted to be Den. Tbis seems to go against that identification.
