Guérin's édition of St. John's Gospel (v. last Report, 55) is reviewed ' by

J. David publishes8 tbe Fayoumic text of Matt. v, 56-vi, 18, xiv, 8-
xv, 4, and xxvi, 13-15, 35-37 from a Paris MS. with critical notes and a
list of the scanty portions of the Bible already existing in this dialect: to
thèse add Wessely's fragments (v. Report, 1907-08, 61).
The Fayoumic text of Acts vii, 1-1-28 and ix, 29-39 is publisbed 9 by
Gaselee from a British Muséum MS.
There are several Greek Christian fragments in the new Oxyrhynchus
volume,10 for which Hunt alone is now responsible. A few verses, on
vellum, of Genesis ii and iii are chiefiy remarkable for the fact that
/copias is represented by the tetragrammaton in the form of "a doubled
Yod, written in the shape of a Z with a horizontal stroke through the
middle, the stroke being carried without a break through both letters."
ïhe compendium exactly corresponds with the abbreviation in later
Hebrew MSS. There are also fragments (on papyrus) of 1 Cor. yii-viii ;
Phil. iii, iv; and of the apocryphal book now called 6 Ezra.
Burkitt takes advantage of the publication by the British Muséum of
a reduced facsimile of the Codex Alexandrinus to put forward some very
pertinent doubts11 as to the supposed Egyptian history of the manuscript.
He publishes anew and investigates the Arabie inscription at Genesis i,
and suggests that " the humble Athanasius " is not, as lias been always
supposed, the patriarch Athanasius III (c. 1300), but perhaps only Cyril
Lucar'a Librarian. If this were so, Cyril may bave brought the MS. from
Mount Athos in 1616, and it may be a Constantinopolitan and not an
Egyptian text at ail !
2. Apocryphal, Gnostic.—A translation of the new fragments of the
Gospel of Bartholomew, from the de Eustafjaell MSS. (v. Report 1906-07,
68 and 72), which bave not yet been publisbed, is given 12 by CfiUM.
Thèse must be brought into combination with the previous publications
of Lacau (v. Report 1903-0-4, 75) and lïevillout (v. Report 1904-05, 75).
M. Pi. James, in a note on the RevclcUio Thomcic, reports 13 that Karl
■Sciimidt has in préparation a Coptic fragment of the Epsistola Apostolorum
.(v. last Report, 58).
A charm14 against reptiles, etc., from Oxyrhynchus shows a formula in
which the name Aphrodite is diminished by cutting off a letter at each
.répétition, then an invocation to Jehovah Sabaoth Adonai, and at the
