Leipoldt's Sinuthian texts (v. last Report, 57) are reviewed 31 by Spiegel-
berg, who calls attention to traces of middle-Egyptian dialect, such as es
for as (the interrogative pronoun). À review32 by âmélineau is
composed to a considérable extent of a defence of lus own édition where
adversely criticised by Leipoldt. He also dissents from Leipoldt's plan
of producing a composite text from various MSS., preferring to keep the
text of one MS. and to give variants from others. An article32a (by
Leipoldt himself ?) calls attention to several points of interest for those
who do not know Coptic (as there is as yet no translation), sucb as
the monastic rule, letters from St. Cyril, etc.
Mgr. Cybil II, formerly Uniat Patriarch of Alexandria, continues his
study 33 of Origeu, and almost insists on his orthodoxy : at least his feeling
is entirely favourable and his defence very warm. Mercati will not
allow 34 as Origenic a pièce of commentary on Matt. i, 1, published by
Kollar, which contains a translitération into Greek letters of the Hebrew
text of Habakkuk iii, 13.
H. J. Gabrielsson 35 eqncludes that St. Clément of Alexandria chiefly
made use of the encyclopaedic work of Favorinus as the source of bis
wide gênerai knowledge. ïlie Berlin édition,30 under the charge of
0. Staeiilin, reaches the end of the Stromatcis, and includes the Excerpta
ex Theodoto, the Eclogae, the Qicis olives salvetur? and the fragments of the
Hypotyposeis and of the De PascJia.
Traces (or more) of Stoic philosophy and ethics are again found37 by
Stoffels in Macarius : he develops his argument at some length against
J. Stiglmayr, who38 had denied the connexion when S. had announced
it in his former work (v. Report 1906-07, 65).
A translation30 is given by S. Grébatjt of the Ethiopie version of the
letter from John of Autioch to St. Cyril of Alexandria on their final
reconciliation in 433.
St. Cyril's doctrinal position on " Sanctification " is considered40 by
J. MahÉ.
A Grreek papyrus in the Louvre, containing some of the treatise of
St. Cyril de adorationc in Spiritu et veritate (of which a part had alrëady
been printed by J. H. Bernard in the Memoirs of the Boyal Iiïsh Acad.
