A Manual Mora, of Egypt has appeared in two volumes, the work of
Mueschler, with a preface by Professors Schaveinfurth and Ascherson.
It is written in " English" to facilitate its use among tourists and
travellers, but it must be admitted that revision by an English hand
would have made it more attractive.
Eoeder has again provided the usual concise but valuable summary of
Egyptological publications for 1910-11 in the Z.D.M.G. lxvi, 346.
A. J. Eeinach reviews the work of excavation and exploration in Egypt
and Nubia 1909-1911, Rev. Arch, xviii. 317, and Sir G. Maspero presented
a report on the work done in Egypt to the French Academy on 6th Oct.

Excavations and Explorations.
As the report on Excavations has not contained any account of the
British School since 1908-9, a brief review of the last three years of
work is kindly supplied by Professor Petrie.
" At Memphis the palace of Apries, covering two acres, was found on a
high mound to the north. The plan was recovered, as most of the walls
were still as high as a man, and the stone pavement and dado was found
often in place. A splendid furniture fitting of silver with a gold head of
Hathor, many bronzes, scale armour and weapons were found in the
chambers. The palace stood about 45 feet high, with courts over a
hundred feet square, upon a mound over 50 feet above the plain. In the
ditch was found an interesting series of Persian searings and Aramaic
dockets from parcels. A great pylon of a palace, probably of Senusert I.,
was found taken down, lying as a pile of loose stones. It was 22 feet
high, and bore six scenes of the installation of the crown prince in the seal
festival.
" In the site of the temple of the foreign quarter a new form of lotus
capital was found, which had been brought from some Old Kingdom
source. It shows for the first time the short thick buds, which are figured
in scenes of that age.
" The Temple of Ptah has been cleared over some acres, discovering
portions of a sanctuary of quartzite of Amenhotep III.; a pair of figures of
Ptah and Piameses II. in red granite, perfect, 10 feet high; a sphinx of
earlier age, re-worked by Piameses, 11 feet long; and the largest sphinx
.ever transported, cut in alabaster, 26 feet long and 14 feet high. As it
