cette planche donne fon Portrait entouré d'un riche Cartouche,
le tout gravé par Corneille Galle (Éc. d'Anvers, v. p. 13,25, 37,
33, 41, 59, 78, 9;). L'infcription latine du Cartouche inférieur
lignifie : Orieuus a fait voir l'univers aux hommfs ; Galif, a

This pièce, which is intercalated between the Frontifpiece
and Préface of the geographer, antiquarian and numifmatologifl
Ortelius' Coßnegraphy, of which we have already fpoken, p. 46,
gives his Portrait in a rieh modillion, the whole engraved by
Cornelius Galle (Antwerp School, fee p. 15, 25, 27, 53, 41,
59, 78, 93). The Latin infeription of the inferior cartouch
lignifies : Ortelius shows the universe to mankind ; Gauf,
