XVIe SIECLE. — FABRIQUES ITALIENNES. PLAT.
FAÏENCES DE PESARO. (MUSÉE DE CLUNY.
Quoique de provenance incertaine, cette pièce, dont la décora-
tion présente la division en croix qui caractérise la plupart des
productions de la fabrique de Pesaro, doit, par ce motif, être
attribuée à cette officine. L'ornementation grossière, rappelant la
tradition byzantine, ferait croire que ce Plat pourrait être une
copie faite vers la fin du xvc siècle d'après une pièce analogue do
provenance mauresque. Les branchages sont réservés en blanc sur
fond bleu intense formant relief; au centre, une figure d'enfant,
bas-relief, grossièrement modelée et traitée en arabesque. — Au
revers du plat, la lettre B. — Diam. 0,28. — Musée de Cluny.

Altbough this pièce is of doubtful origin, ils décoration pre-
senting the cross-division which characterizes almost ail the
productions of the Pesaro fabric, it is for this reason attributed
to that laboratory. The coarse ornamentation of this disk, in
the Byzantine style, implies the idea it can be a copy executed at
the end of the fifteenth century from a Mauresque original. The
branches are white and appear through a ground of deep bluo,
Which is in relief. In the centre, the figure of a child coarsely
moulded in the arabesque style. On the back of the disb the
