Le caractère élevé de la composition, l'élégance et la pureté
des formes, l'ondulation des contours de la partie supérieure et
les ouvertures (feintes) pour l'écoulement des eaux pluviales,
que l'on remarque sous le rinceau inférieur, indiquent suffisam-
ment que cette admirable terre-cuite faisait partie du Chéneau
d'un Temple datant de la plus belle époque de l'Art grec. —

The elevated character of this composition, the élégance and
purity of its structure, the curving of the outlines of the upper
part and.the apertures (concealed) for the drainage of the rain-
water, which are visible under the lower foliage, sufficiently
indicate that this admirable terra-cotta formed part of the eaves
of a temple, dating from the finest epoch of Grecian art. —
