Il était de mode pendant les xvic et ivu" siècles d'employer,
pour les tentures de tout appartement somptueux, le cuir gaufré
rehaussé d'or. — C'était à la fois riche, solennel et de longue
durée. Il est regrettable qu'on ait à peu près renoncé à ce mode
de tenture.

In the xvt"1 and xvn1'1 centuries it was the fashion to use for
hangings of every sumptuous apartment the goffered leather
set off with gold.

lt was both rich grand and lasting. It is to be regretted that
we hâve given up that kind of hangings.
