The persian ornamentation does not always liold a great varirga-
tion, and very olten we perceive cither in llie tapestries, ceramic
works or stuffs, that the same ornaments are reproduced and set in
such an order that tlicy distribute tlicmselvcs according to the identi-
cal principles. — Thus the above fragment of a carpet shows us an
ornamentation which may be notieed again with but a few altérations
on china-Iinings and enamelled dishes.
What espccially lias struck our attention at this carpet, is the perfect
harmony of tints as well as its clcar, soft and luininous aspect.
