piques points et, quelle que soit la distance qui sépare les na-
'j°ns, on est sujet à rencontrer parfois des parentés et dessimi-
J uues incontestables. Les découpures de la porte supérieure
ce meuble japonais sont modelées en forme do nuages. Les
!lïlbrica;ions qui existent sur l'espèce de balustrade de la base
S°nt ces sortes de grecques dont l'art décoratif do ce pays fait

The chimera serving to suspend this remarkable bronze lamp,
is wonderfully modelled; its rccals to the mind the sculptured
animais of Mediseval Europe. The same might be said of the
openwork of the central part, pierced so as to allow the diffu-
sion of light, which somewhat resembles the wreaths of the
xntb century.
Art always offers certain points in common, and howcver
distant the nations, some undeniablo similitudes and parentship
are often met with.
The openwork of the upper part is modelled in the shape of
clouds, and the imbricated ornaments decorating the balustrade
at the base, figure the zigzag ornament so frequently u?",d even
now by the Japanese.
