Ob voit, h l'église de Sainte-Clotilde aux Andelys, deux por-
tails latéraux également intéressants comme décoration et
comme somptuosité, dont l'un date du xve siècle, et l'autre des
belles années de la Renaissance. C'est à ce dernier que nous
empruntons les cartouches ci-dessus, disposés à la base du por-
tail principal. Ce motif de décoration a été prodigué au portail
du xvie siècle, et pourtant il est employé avec goût et intelligence.

In the churcli of Sa Clotilda, Andelys, are to bo seen tvvo
portais both interesting for tlieir décoration and richness; one
belongs to the xvlh century, the other to the finest period of the
French Renaissance. To the latter wc borrow the above car-
touches vvhich are placed at the base of the grand portai. This
ornamental motive lias bcen profusely used in the xvilh century
portai, but with much taste and cleverness.
