XVIe SIÈCLE. — travail italien. ARMES OFFENSIVES. — ÉPÉE DE PARADE CISELÉE
C'est au Musée d'artillerie, aujour-
d'hui transporté et installé à l'hôtel
national des Invalides, que l'on peut
voir cette remarquable épée de la fin
du xvie siècle. Elle est en fer incrusté
et damasquiné d'or, et le travail en
est des plus soignés. Le goût du
xvne siècle commence à s'y montrer
déjà, et, malgré les éloges qu'on ne
peut refuser à cette arme, il faut avouer
que, maintes épées de cérémonie du
commencement du xvi" siècle peuvent
lui être préférées, sinon comme exécu-
tion, du moins comme ajustement.
