XVI0 SIÈCLE. — ÉCOLE italienne. PETIT PLAT OU ASSIETTE A FRUITS A REFLETS MÉTALLIQUES.

Le petit plat de la collection Sauvageot, au Louvre, est reproduit ici aux 9/10cs de l’ori-
ginal. Le mnrli du plat est très large et décoré d’ornements courants exécutés haut la main,
avec de puissants contours. Les motifs sont jaunes et rouges sur fond bleu très foncé. Le
sujet central, sorte de médaillon circulaire, montre l’amôur ailé, avec carquois en bandoulière,
et attaché au tronc d’un arbre dépouillé. Le fond est bleu et de même valeur que celui du
marli.
L’éclat, do cotte assiette à fruits est dos plus puissants et. d’un grand aspect décoratif, que
le graveur ne peut rendre que très imparfaitement, on le conçoit.

This small dish from the Sauvageot collection, is reproduced nine tenths of full size.
The rim is very wide and decorated with a running ornament executed off hand and power-
fully outlined. The motives are red and yellow upon a dark blue ground. The central compo-
sition, in a round medallion, shows Cupid kneeling, blindfolded and tied to the trunk of a
tree.
The brillancy of the metallic lustre of this dish is very effective and décorative, we need
not remark that the engraver can but very faintly reproduce it.
