TRIPTYQUE EN ROIS DECORE DE PEINTURES.

Ce triptyque à trois vantaux, d’origine française, doit remonter
au cours du xmc siècle, et les traces de vétusté ne lui font pas
défaut. Il a conservé la peinture du temps, dont il a été primi-
Rvement couvert ; mais les sujets religieux en sculpture, fixés à
**• base des trilobés et quatrilobes, ont tous disparu. En revanche,

fleurs de lis, des lions rampants et des aigles au vol facé très
Apparents. Les panneaux du triptyque se ferment par des char-
nières et sont terminés au sommet par des gables ornés de
crochets. Nous avons fait dessiner ce curieux objet en bois

This wooden triptych, which belongs to the French school, dates
from the xni1’1 ccntury. It has much suffered from old âge; it
lias preserved its original paintings, but the religions sculptures
which ornamented the trilobate and variously shaped panels
hâve disappeared. However the roses, quadrilobes rampant
lions, eagles with inverted wings, and the semés of fleurs de lis
which decoraie the ground of these panels are very apparent.
The latéral compartments as well as the central one are crowned
by gables ornamented with crochets. This curious wooden
article was designed for us wlicn it was in the “ Musée des
Arts décoratifs ”.
