HP HIS part of the Artist's Repository
is offered to the Public, as an eligible
Medium, between a termination of that
Work, in an imperfect and fudden manner,
and a prolongation of it beyond the con-
venience of its Readers. It is the earnefl
defire of the Proprietors, that, on fubjects
connected with the Arts, it mould contain
every information ufually fuppofed re*
quifite to inftrucl and complete the Stu-
dent : while at the fame time, they wifh
to render it concife, and as little expenfive
or dilatory as poffible. They have therefore
chofen the alphabetical order of a Dic-
tionary, as moll; fuitable to this Defign ;
and as more readily, and with leaif trouble,
offering to the reader that information he
