Negers manche Aehnlichkeiten mit den Affen wahrgenommen. Diefs hewog sie zu
der Aeufserung, die Neger seyen eine Menschenrasse, welche in der Organi-
sation und in den Seelen-Vermögen auf einer niederen Stufe als die Europäer und die
Völker anderer Rassen stehe. Mehrere Naturhistoriker, White Äj, Lawrence e)
und Virey 0 traten dieser Ansicht nicht nur bei, sondern sie giengen seihst so weit,

Soemmerring äussert am Schlufs S. 32: Aus allem Angeführten zusammengenommen scheint
nun der Schlufs nicht unbillig, noch ungegründet: dafs im Allgemeinen, im Durchschnitt, die afri-
kanischen Mohren doch in etwas näher an's AiFengeschlecht, als die Europäer gränzen.

„This.inferiority of Organisation is attended with corresponding inferiority of faculties; which may be
„proved, not so much by the infortunate beings who are degrated by slavery, as by every fact in the
„past history and the present condition of Africa."
