Depicting an episode in the history or epoch of the twelfth cen-
tury wars between the Minamoto and Taira Factions: showing
the arms and armor of that age.* Yamato-Tosa school; date
and artist unknown.
*The closing period of these Japanese "Wars of the looses"
(about 1185), and the bloody battles, formed one of the most
startling pages of Japanese history.
