Progress of Egyptology.

Lastly, from far away in Eastern Syria, near Damascus, is the so-called
"Job-stone," with an inscription of Rameses II., and from Phoenicia
one or two relics of Sa'ite and Ptolemaic occupation.19

Of texts from monuments in Museums we have:—■

Gizeh. The inscriptions of four statues of late date published and
translated by Daressy.23 The inscriptions of the funeral cones, with an
index to all other publications, by the same.21

Constantinople. Several Egyptian monuments, by Scheil.2i

Dokpat. An interesting collection, by Prof. Wiedemann.*'

Berlin. Very base inscription of the Persian period, by Erman.24

Paris. Some papyri and ostraca, by Spiegelberg.2:'

Oxford. Two stelae from Wady Half eh, presented by Captain
H. G. Lyons, E.E., by Cram.20

The texts of the two obelisks of Beneventum, set up before the temple
of Isis in the 8th year of Domitian, have been translated by Erman and
by Schiaparelii, with the help of a new fragment discovered in 1892.
The two interpretations differ considerably. A crouching statue of
Eamesside epoch was brought from Memphis to adorn the same temple.27
