printed in italics: for this part of
the work I have been under the
necessity of consulting many au-
thors, and there is no point of any
consequence on which I have not
examined most of the books on the
subject. This part therefore, as it
may be relied upon for its accuracy,
will, I am persuaded, meet with
respect.

of the modern Ionic capital, ac-
