à cette époque par Pierre Courtoys de Limoges. Ces inté-
ressantes pièces, de forme ovale, ne mesurent pas moins de
lm,05 de hauteur sur lm,00 de largeur, et le Jupiter que
nous donnons ici (h'g. 428) en fait parlie. Le Rosso, dit-on,
pour complaire à Henri II encore dauphin, l'aurait représente
sous les traits du vainqueur des Titans, par allusion à la
puissance espagnole que le jeune prince se préparait à com-

The cartoons of the Gods, which Francis I. ordered the
Rosso to exécute for the external décoration of the Château
de Madrid at the Bois de Boulogne, were only executed in
1559 under Henry II. The Musée de Cluny possesses under
the nos from 1000 to 1008 the originals of the large enamel-
led sheets executed at the time by Pierre Courtoys from
Limoges. Thèse interesting pièces, of an oval form, do not
measure less than 1™,65 height, by lm,00 breadth, and the
Jupiter which we give here (fig. ,428) belongs to it. It is
said that the Rosso, in order to please Henry IL, still Dau-
phin, represented him as a victor of the Tilans, alluding to
the Spaniards the young prince was preparing to make war
