Il serait intéressant de pouvoir expliquer d'une façon certaine
'e symbolisme de ces deux motifs sculptés, ou plutôt moulés en
'erre cuite, et qui semblent avoir une certaine analogie entre
eux : c'est chose difficile au moins pour nous. Nous nous bor-
nons à dire qu'ils sont loin, l'un et l'autre, de la pureté de com-
position et d'exécution que l'on rencontre dans les fragments de
belle époque grecque.

It would be interesting to discover the true explanation of the
symbolism of tliese two conceptions, sculptured or rather mo-
delled in terra cotta, which appear to bave a kind of analogy
between them ; to ourselves it seems a matter of no little dif-
ficully. We will merely observe that tliey are botb very far
from the purity of conception and exécution to be found in the
fragments of the palmy days of Greek art.
