H est difficile de rencontrer une pièce de faïence plus harmo-
nieuse que celle-ci et d'une exécution plus soignée. — Il y avait
er> effet des difficultés à vaincre dans le choix et la disposition
Qes tons : la trace des entrelacs uniformes mais compliques
du marli n'était pas chose facile à obtenir, ainsi que les rinceaux
intermédiaires, et l'artiste a montré partout une dextérité, une
sûreté de main incroyables.
Les ornements du fond sont jaune clair et gris sur brun. —
Les autres sont blanc sur fond gris. — L'écusson central est
blanc aussi et n'a reçu ni blason ni devise.

It is very seldom one meets with a bit of earthen ware so
carefully executed and so hafmonious. The choice and disposi-
tion of the colouring presented many diffirulties, but the design
of the interlaciiigs of the border, uniform but complicated, as well
as the intermediari'garlands were yet lesseasilyto be dealtwith
and at ail points of view, the artist has shown a most surprising
cleverness and consummate handicraft. The ornaments are light
yellow and grey upon a brown ground. The other are white
upnn a yellow ground; the central escutchoon is also white and
bears no coat of arms.
