La tradition veut que Stefano de Bergame ait exécuté les
admirables sculptures du chœur de Saint-Pierre, de Pérouse,
d'après des dessins de Raphaël. Nous ne voulons pas contredire
la tradition. Nous nous bornons à dire que ces arabesques sont
toutes d'une composition parfaite, et que l'exécution ne leur
cède jamais en Yien.

According to tradition, the admirable wooden sculptures of
the chair of S. Pietro, at Perugia, designed by Raffaele, were
carved by Stefano di Bergamo. We do not intend questioning
the tradition, but are quite contented to say that the design
of thèse arabesques is perfect and the exécution quite al pt'.r
with it.
