Le plafond que nous publions aujourd'hui a été composé et peint
par M. J. Mazerolle pour le comte do Mazewski, dont il décore le
grand salon de l'hôtel, avenue Malakoff, à Pari?.
La composition de l'artiste montre Vénus entourée des nymphes
de la mer voguant au matin. Qui va-t-elle retrouver? l'artiste est
le premier à l'ignorer, et nous l'ignorons également. Ce que nous
savons, par exemple, c'est que le sujet est merveilleusement traité,
et que l'encadrement, d'une ampleur magistrale, montre à la fois
des coquillages, des plantes marines, des rocailles, des sirènes et
des amours.

This coiling, which was designed and painted by M. J. Mazerolle,
adorns the grand saloon of count Mazewski's mansion, situatcd ave-
nue Malakoff, Paris, who had ordered it to the artist.
It représenta, surrounded by marine nymphs, Aphrodite borne
on the sea, at sunrise. Where is she going to? The artist himself
could not tell ; how could we ? Bat what we can vouch for is
that the composition is marvellous and that its framing of
shells, sea-weeds, rock-work, syrens and amorini is masterly
executed.
