MIROIR DE TOILETTE AVEC BORDURE
EN BOIS ET EN IVOIRE.
f.a bordure de ce riche
miroir, d’origine italienne,
est en bois sculpté et doré.
Les deux cariatides, ainsi
que les génies de la par-
tie supérieure ou fronton,
sont en haut relief; ils sont
ailés et portent des cou-
ronnes; les enfants placés
à l’angle du fronton son-
nent de la trompette avec
ardeur. Le médaillon cen-
tral, de forme elliptique,
montre une femme nue à
sa toilette : elle est assise
et arrange sa chevelure.
La frise qui sépare la
glace du couronnement
est, comme le motif précé-
dent, en ivoire : elle est
composée d’amours et de
guirlandes de fruits en
relief, et paraît appartenir
à une époque postérieure.
La glace, comme à tous
ou presque tous les miroirs
de cette époque, se trouve
taillée en biseau, ce qui
donne un certain caractère
à l’objet. Celui-ci a près de
0m,G0 de hauteur. La base
est sans ornement et d’une
simplicité voulue.

The frame of this rich
Italian mirror is in wood,
sculptured and gilt. The
tvvo cariatids supporting
the upper part of the
frame as well as the win-
ged and crown bearing
genii of the pediment arc
sculptured in high relief :
the children at their feet
sound the trumpet with
ail their might. The ellip-
tical medallion in the ccn
ter shows a naked woman
at her toilet, she is sitting
and dresses her hair.
The frieze upon which
rests the pediment, is in
ivory like the motive we
bave just mentionned it is
ornamented with amorini
and fruits in relief, and
seems to belong to an
earlier epoch.
The bevel of the plate,
proper as customary with
al L the mirror s of the
xvi,h ccntury, is not with-
out giving a certain cha-
racter to the article, which
measures two feet high
and whose base is purpo-
scdly devoid of an y kind
of ornamentation.
