thical Targitaos, whereas a Scythian horseman on reverses is in fact a conceptual portrait
of the ruler.
In conclusion, it seems reasonable to assume that the iconography of the Black Sea
area contains true representations of Scythians, because regardless their means of expres-
sion, they were conceived by their authors as portraits.
