„OBRAZ O KRĄŻENIU OBRAZÓW": JASTRZĘBIE NOCY EDWARDA HOPPERA
143
I discuss the American Dream exhibition at the National Museum in Cracow, which
included a three dimensional version of the bar. The theme of the American dream
and the possibility of physically entering the bar (the space of the museum room
could be identihed with the space in front of the bar in the painting) was a unique
combination of the imaginary and the actual, the physical and yirtual/ intangible,
memory and vision. Despite all the differences, this installation seemed to provide
the visitors familiar with Hopper's work with a very strong feeling of ghostly, yirtual
presence. In consequence, I claim that the dissemination of in contem-
porary visual culture does justice to the modę of reception the image demands as a
unique visual proposition, which is to an extent pre-arranged, and found its perfect
realization at the postmodern time of the pictorial tum - the cultural domination of
the yisual.
