Fragment of a decree of the Roman period, entitled irepl rov
jirj KaOlcrTacrOai irpaKTopa^, published in Mr. Clarke's
first Report. We have chiefly the preamble, of which the
last lines are imperfect. The inscription has the late
forms C and Vi for and ft, and omits I in HI and ft I.*

* This is one of the inscriptions which were kept sealed by the Turkish
officials (see p. n), and could not be seen by Dr. Sterrett. An inspection of the
stone (now in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston) shows that in line II what was
read at Assos . . TAEETHNAITH ■ (ra es t?> Aitt; •) is meant for .. TAEETHNAITHE,
i.e. [Ka\To.{a)aTr\v{a)L rr\s; and that APfxjON is the true reading at the end of
