Berber and other Hamitic languages. An examination of the numerals may lead to the
belief that originally the method of counting was by fives and not by tens, and that all
the early Canarians used a quinary, and not a decimal, system.
Finally it seems allowable to presume that the ancient form of speech current in the
Canary Islands, some of which is preserved in Classes II and III, is a lineal descendant
of a western dialect of Proto-Libyan.
