Inventar der Sammlung antiker Vasen und Terracotten. B

Karlsruhe, 1878–1941, 1982, 1985

Period 1878–1941 (B 1 – B 3158) and additions B 3160(R) – B 3171(R) from 1982 and 1985 The B inventory contains ceramics and terracottas from the Mediterranean region, primarily from Italy and Greece. The nucleus of the collection was a collection of around 400 pieces acquired by Friedrich Maler on behalf of the state in Italy in 1837/38. With the acquisition of the Creuzer (1855), Schüler (1859) and Thiersch (1860) collections, the number of objects grew steadily. In the 1880s and early 1890s, the collection was expanded with targeted purchases of entire collections and groups of objects. The acquisition of the Clarke Collection (1881), the purchase of over 250 objects at the antique market in Rome by Wolfgang Helbig (1884), the auction of over 80 vessels from Alfred Biliotti's excavations (1886) on Rhodes, and the purchase of around 200 pieces from Max Ohnefalsch-Richter's excavations on Cyprus (1887 and 1891), as well as further donations and purchases, considerably expanded the holdings of the B inventory.
