(18.) Trophy found on the plain of Marathon.—It is
composed of a helmet, a bow, a pair of greaves, and a shield.
These arms are attached to the trunk of a tree. This was
the primitive mode of erecting a trophy in antiquity.

(19.) ^Igipan.—This figure is attached to a pilaster, of
which the capital surmounts his head. Eound the body
is a fawn's skin, arranged like a mantle, in which the
right hand and arm are muffled; in the left hand he holds
a syrinx. The head and hoofs of the fawn's skin hang at
his left side. The capital is ornamented with pine branches
and cones. Red colour is quite distinct on the drapery,
the face and ears of the figure, and on the capital.

(20.) Isis, clad in a talaric chiton and a mantle, which is
fastened on the breast by the nodus Isiacus.—The ends of
a fringed veil hang down on her shoulders ; the left thigh
is perforated with a small hole, probably for the attachment
of a situla carried in the hand ; the head and the arms
from above the elbows are wanting.

(21, 24.) Two groups representing Victory sacri-
ficing a Bull, who is prostrate, kneeling on his left
knee.—In No. 24 the Victory rests her right knee on the
back of the bull, forcing back his head with her left hand,
which grasps his muzzle, while with her right hand she is
about to stab him. Her loose hair floats down over her
