(LIX.) Fragment of Pavement, composed of cubes
arranged in diagonal rows. This pattern is bounded by an
embattled border, black and white. The tops of the cubes
are white ; the two sides shown are red and green. On the
right side is a zigzag pattern composed of white, red,
black, green, and orange lines.

(LX.) Corner of a Pavement.—In the centre is a
quatrefoil, with an ivy-leaf between each pair of leaves.
This is set in a frame, cheeky black and white. At each
angle of this square is a star-pattern ; and, set diagonally
to each of the sides, is a smaller square enclosing a quatre-
foil. Between each pair of stars next the border is an
oblong frame enclosing a floral pattern. Eound the edge
of the pavement is a deep border, one stripe of which is
chequered orange and white, the other embattled black
and red. The ground of this mosaic is white ; the patterns
principally in black, picked out with red, orange, and
grey-

(LXI.) Within an Olive-wreath a Rose, of which the
leaves are green mixed with white. The rose has four
white leaves tipped with red, alternating with the green
leaves which form the calyx.

(LXII.) Within a wreath a Flower of four leaves;
the colours of the leaves of the wreath are white, yellow,
and olive-green on a black ground. The flower is red,
black, and green, on a white ground.

back at a Nereid, who sits upon a fold of his fishy tail.
