No. 43. Pendant in form of ram's head ; pierced at
back for suspension. Length, 1T^- in.
No. 44. Similar pendant, pierced at the back for sus-
pension. Length, 1^ in.
No. 45. Pendant in form of female (?) mask; features
nearly obliterated. Height, If- in.
Nos. 46-58 are from the Castellani Collection.
No. 46. Pendant in form of ram's head. At the back of
the head a long loop for suspension is fastened on with
cement, but it is doubtful whether it originally belonged to
the head. Length of head, 1^ in.; length of loop, If in.
No. 47. Similar pendant; at the back, the bead and reel
ornament; pierced for suspension. Length, 1| in.
No. 48. Similar pendant; under the ears, behind and
between the horns, diagonal lines are incised. The eye-
brows are indicated by curved incised lines ; in fine con-
dition. Pierced at the back for suspension. Length, 1^ in.
No. 49. Similar pendant; at the back, bead and reel
ornament; pierced for suspension. Length, f- in.
No. 50. Pendant in form of female mask. Hair waved,
and surmounted by a stephane. The outer corners of the eyes
turned upwards. Pierced for suspension. Height, 1^ in.
No. 51. Pendant in form of lion's head, pierced at the
back for suspension. Length, 1-^ in.
No. 52. Pyxis, with cover. Two Cupids or Genii gather-
ing grapes at a vintage. On one side of the pyxis a
vine, from which a Cupid on the right gathers a bunch of
grapes with his right hand, holding another bunch with
his left hand in front of his body. He stands looking to
the front. On the ground below his right hand is a kala-
thos. On the opposite side of the pyxis is a smaller vine, on
a branch of which on the right is a Cupid seated ; below
him is the Dionysiac panther eating from his left hand a
bunch of grapes; in his right hand is a drinking-horn,
Jceras; he is turned to the right. On the ground, on the
right of the panther, is a Icrater fluted round the bodj^.
This pyxis is in very fine condition, and a beautiful speci-
men of carving in amber of the Eoman period. Height,
with cover, 2|- in. Aquileia, in North Italy.
