the left arm, and passing obliquely across the body. With
her right hand she draws on one side the skirt of her
talaric chiton, in her left she holds a fruit (?). In bad con-
dition, and very indistinct. Height, 4^ in.

(46) Another; similar. Head wanting. Height, 4^ in.

XX. (47) Female figure, standing, with both arms close
to the sides. The head is veiled ; the body clad in a talaric
chiton, over which is a mantle passing from the left
shoulder obliquely so as to leave the right shoulder free.
The figure tapers from the shoulders to the base in the
Archaic manner. Height, 6^ in.

XXI. (48) Female figure. Over the forehead a stephane,
behind which is a veil falling over the shoulders; a single
tress of hair falls on her bosom on either side of the neck.
She wears a talaric chiton, over which is a garment with
pteryges, which is fastened on the right shoulder, and
crosses the bosom obliquely, leaving the left shoulder free;
her arms are close to her sides, and with her left hand she
draws aside the skirt of her chiton, which is spotted with
red on a white ground. The upper garment has been
painted red; on either arm is a bracelet painted blue.
Feet broken off. Height, 5-f in.

XXII. (49) Female figure. On the forehead a band;
the hair clusters on either side the temples; at the back of
the head a veil. The figure is enveloped in a mantle, in
which both hands are muffled ; the left knee is bent; the
right leg and thigh broken away. Not Archaic in character.
Height, 7| in.

XXIII. (50) Draped female figure, probably Here,
stands with both arms placed by her sides. In her right
hand she holds a phiale mesomphalos, in her left some object;
on her head is a Stephanos. Her hair, waved over the fore-
head, flows in long tresses on each side of her neck. She
wears a talaric chiton, over which is a diplo'idion reaching
to the hips, and gathered up under her girdle; her feet
are naked; she stands on a tall plinth. Later Archaic.

XXIV. (51) Two draped female figures, seated side by
side on the same seat. They wear talaric chitons; a peplos
passes horizontally across their bodies, reaching as high as
the bosom, and to the bottom of the calf of the leg. This
same garment seems to be drawn round their backs and
over their heads so as to form a hood. The arms are not
