lie wears a petasos with a flexible brim; a clilamys hangs
from his shoulders ; he wears a jerkin reaching to the hips ;
both legs and arms of the rider and one side of the ram
broken away. Length, 5Jr in. by 6-f in. For the upper

XLVI. (86) Male figure on a horse walking to the
right. The rider wears a tall pilos with a lappet hanging
down on either cheek, and a chiton reaching to the knees,
above which is a chlamys hanging from the shoulders; his
face turns to the front. Height, 4f in. Salzmann, Necro-
pole de Camiros.

XLVII. (87) Vase in the form of the head of Herakles,
who is beardless. He wears the lion's skin ; the face of the
lion is drawn over the top of his head, so that the front
teeth of the upper jaw rest on the forehead ; the teeth of
the lion's lower jaw overlap the jowl of Herakles ; his chin
comes between the two incisors; the top of his head is
surmounted by the mouth of the vase. This terracotta has
been coloured red. Height, 3 in.

XLVIII. (88) Vase in the form of a bull's head and
neck with human face, probably a river-god. The face
painted black, the lips red, the eyes left the natural colour
of the clay. The beard, which runs back to the ears, and
projects in a square mass bej'ond the chin, has a smooth
surface ; the right horn is painted black ; the left is broken
away; the inside of the ears and the mouth of the vase
are painted red. Height, 3f in.

XLIX. (89) Vase in the form of a Siren. The top of the
vase surmounts the head of the Siren ; the human neck is
eet on to the shoulder of the bird; the hair falls in a mass
of long tresses at the back ; on each side of the neck three
tresses fall on the shoulder of the bird, whose wings are
closed; the tail square; the legs doubled up under the body ;
in the ears are circular earrings. Between the shoulders
is a loop for suspension ; the mouth of the vase is painted
red; on the wings red, and on the tail and loop green
colour. Length, 7 in. by 5 in.

(90) Similar vase. The eyebrows painted black; the
eyes picked out with black ; the lips red ; circular earrings
in the ears ; the feathers of the wings and tail drawn in
black on a white ground; red colour on the breast and
pinions; the loop on the back red and green. Length,
4£ in. by 4 in.
