is not that immense weight of gross vapours
pressing upon the body; the mind acts
with greater freedom, and all the functions
both of soul and body are performed in a
superior manner. It would appear, that in
proportion as we are raised above the habi-
tations of men, all low and vulgar senti-
ments are lest behind ; and that the soul,
in approaching the cethereal regions, makes
off its earthly affections, and already ac-
quires somethingof their celeslia! purity.—
Here, where you Hand under a screne fey,
and behold, with equal serenity, the tem-
pesl and storm forming below your feet;
the lightning, darting from cloud to cloud,
and the thunder rolling round the moun-
tain, and threatening with destru&ion the
poor wretches below; the mind considers
the little storms of the human paslions as
equally below her notice.—Surely the six-
ation alone, is enough to inspire philoso-
