sad wry faces, and swore the coachman
ought to be crucified;—but when he saw
us bent on walking, he was still more di-
stressed ; and I really believe, if we had
been discovered, that he would not have
served us any longer. He therefore set his
wits to work, how he mould preseive both
his mastei-'s honour and his own place.
He at firsl hesitated, before he would take
