this day I felt pleased with mankind, for we were
now free to prosecute our journey. The Bokharees
assured me that they were interested in our favour,
from the commands of their minister the Koosh
Begee ; and the Persians, of whom there were many
in the caravan, dreaded the displeasure of Abbas
Meerza, knowing the friendship which exists be-
tween him and the English. Individually, I did
not presume to believe that either of these great
personages bestowed much care upon us; but it
was very pleasant to know that such were the
opinions of our companions.
