NOTICE

'HE very important collection formed by

of four hundred Japanese paintings and about

sale. This collection includes examples of al-
most every well-known Japanese artist from the
sixteenth century. It was Mr. Lathrop’s inten-
tion to present it to the Metropolitan Museum
of Art. Unfortunately on account of financial
troubles he was prevented from carrying out his
plans, and the entire collection must be disposed
of as rapidly as possible. The prices are
therefore very low so that this sale affords a
unique opportunity to purchase fine specimens
of the art of Japan.
