Plate V,
7. Statue of calcareous stone. Height, 3 feet nf inches. Found in the temple
(Golgoi).
Archaic statue of a man standing. Tip of the nose, right arm, and lower portion of
the figure from above the knees, are wanting. Back of the left hand is broken away, show-
ing the same evidence of having been purposely defaced; the back of the figure has been
left unfinished. The left arm is folded across the breast; it was found broken from the
shoulder to the elbow. The right arm has hung by the side, as indicated by the remaining
fragments of it at the hip. The head was also detached from the body when discovered, and
has been reset. The beard is indicated by a raised surface, and the eyebrows are represented
in a similar manner. The ears are very high, more than one-half of the ear being above the
middle line of the eye. The head-dress is similar to that of the statues already described.
Around the belt is sculptured a row of rosettes, somewhat defaced; on the left side are
remains of a kilt. A tight-fitting, sleeveless garment is shown by the line under the left
armpit. The figure wears a rich collar, or necklace. An armlet, with a rosette in front,
encircles the upper part of the left arm.
