of Golgoi.
Capital of a pilaster; above is the square abacus. Lower portion broken away;

in relief of conventionalized plant forms, terminating in volutes, is another pattern, placed
horizontally and ending in volutes, between which is the head of Athor, the goddess of
beauty, the Astarte of the Phoenicians, and Aphrodite of the Greeks, with the hair curled
at the end on each side, and human ears, and a collar round the neck. On both sides of
the face, incised lines to represent branches. On the left these lines are quite obliterated.
27. Slab of calcareous stone. Height, 2 feet io£ inches. Found in the necropolis
of Golgoi.
Top of column or pilaster surmounted by an aegis of Athor. The face of the goddess
has cow's ears. The hair curls in a spiral at the base, and is tied with a triple band over
the forehead. This capital is much more Egyptian than the preceding, the eyes and
the peculiarity of the head attire show it to be not older than the sixth century B.C.
