disposed curls, and covers the back of the figure in apron-like fashion, fitting close to
the body in curving outline. The meeting of the shoulder-pieces on the back is concealed
under the hair.

275. Calcareous stone. Height, 1 foot 7^ inches. From the temple (Golgoi).
Statuette, in general character resembling No. 267, broken off below the knees, and

surface abraded.

276. Calcareous stone. Height, 2 feet 2\ inches. From the temple (Golgoi).
Statuette, similar to the preceding. Traces of red color over the garment.

277. Calcareous stone. Height, 2 feet 2| inches. From the temple (Golgoi).
Statuette, with legs together, and arms hanging by the sides; broken off above

the knees; features mutilated. Band around the forehead, with hair falling behind the
ears. Short-sleeved garment, with broad girdle, or belt, passing between the legs; on this
three unfinished rosettes in relief, the central one united with a perpendicular band. Spiral
armlets and ear-rings. Traces of red color on the garment.

278. Calcareous stone. Height, 2 feet 2§ inches. From the temple (Golgoi).
Statuette, with conical cap; chiton falling to the feet, and himation worn over the

left shoulder and under the left arm. The arms hang down; the left leg slightly in
advance. Surface much hacked and abradec Head and feet broken off, and res<-c-

279. Calcareous stone. Height, 1 foot 11% inches. From the temple (Golgoi).
Statuette, broken off at the line of the knees; the left forearm wanting. A break

under the line of the belt has been rejoined. The right shoulder and head have been
broken off and rejoined; the nose is wanting; the head and face show traces of fire.
The helmet, with top knob ending in two lotus flowers, has a rosette in front, around
which a broad decorative border, in conventionalized lotus-flower designs. The figure
wears a belt, with relief decorations abraded and undistinguishable, and a kilt, on which
is seen, in relief, a head of Medusa, from the mouth of which protrude two asps; over
this head an eye; below the snakes, two winged monsters in relief; spiral armlets and
ear-rings; broad necklace or breast collar. The right hand holds some object.
