Plate LX,
407. Calcareous stone. Height, 6 feet 3^ inches. From the temple (Golgoi).
Bearded figure, wearing a conical cap, as represented in the preceding head, and a
long robe reaching to the feet. The arms hang by the sides; the legs together, the left
foot slightly advanced. The hair falling behind the ears is plain, and without details at
the back, but carefully sculptured in short uniform curls; in front a row of short curls
projects from under the head-dress round the forehead. The beard is rendered in rows
of small curls, with deep undercutting. The himation passing over the left shoulder has
a fold thrown back, with an indented border partially broken off. The lower edge of the
robe is bordered by an incised band. Traces of red color on the drapery and lips. Bracelets
on the lower forearms, the sleeves of the robe descending below the elbows; portions of
the fingers of the left hand are broken off. The head of the statue was found detached
from the body, but resting on its shoulders, and has been rejoined.
